A.J. Burnett Told Andrew McCutchen To Hit Two Homers, So He Did
Matt Slocum/ [object Object] The Pirates whacked a mess of dingers in their 15-2 win in Philadelphia, but none quite so on-demand as Andrew McCutchen’s. Former Pirate (and Phillie) A.J. Burnett visited the Bucs’ clubhouse before the game, and, like a dying child, he had a request for his favorite slugger.
“He said, ‘Get me two,’ and I told him, ‘All right. I’ll do it,’” McCutchen said.
Burnett, who retired last fall, was in the TV booth when McCutchen homered in the fourth, and said “now he owes me one more.” When Cutch took the field after stroking a second one in the eighth, he spotted Burnett in his luxury box and gave him the universal point-and-grin sign for “I gotchu.”
