Andrew Bogut Has A Fractured Rib Dangerously Close To His Lungs
Andrew Bogut is out indefinitely following this injury from the closing minutes of regulation of Sunday's wild Golden State-Portland game. With around 24 seconds left in the fourth, LaMarcus Aldridge and Bogut collided and Bogut went sprawling to the court. He immediately clutched his pectoral area and, as Aldridge was shooting his first foul shot, you can see him asking to be taken out.
Jermaine O'Neal replaced Bogut and it was clear the big man was in considerable pain on the bench. He later told the San Francisco Chronicle that he was initially injured in the first half of Thursday's game against the Nuggets, but the play Sunday night against Aldridge was the decisive blow.
He was only four games back from a bruised pelvis and groin and the knock against Bogut—one he's now bristling at—has always been his durability, but this isn't a "soft" issue. This is scary and he's being held out because doctors think the rib is too close to his lungs to play through the pain.
That sounds awful. A deep breath or a cough is one thing, but who successfully plans around sneezing? There's no timetable for his return, but it sounds like he will miss at least part of the postseason.
