Andy Murray Wins Wimbledon
Andy Murray ended a 77-year drought at Wimbledon, becoming the first British man to win the tournament since Fred Perry in 1936, with a straight-set victory over Novak Djokovic.
In the final game—amid alternating deafening silence and roaring cheers on Centre Court—Murray saw triple-match point turn to four Djokovic break points and back to his advantage after an incredible win on the fourth deuce point. Then, finally, he was victorious.
Murray almost seemed to be more relieved than elated to win. After shaking hands with Djokovic, he climbed into the stands and hugged his coach, family and girlfriend. It was almost as endearing as last year.
