Mandatory Credit: Bob Frid-Imagn Images Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno is expected to be sidelined approximately four weeks with a hand injury, the team announced.
Foligno sustained the injury on Saturday night after blocking a shot from Toronto defenseman Jake McCabe during the second period of Chicago's 3-2 victory against the Maple Leafs.
"It's unfortunate," said Hawks coach Jeff Blashill. "He's a tough, tough customer, so when he came off like that I knew he was in trouble. It'll be a loss, but that's this league. Everybody in the league's got guys who are down, and you have to find ways to take the guys you have and find a way to win."
Foligno, 38, has six assists in 15 games this season, his third campaign with the Blackhawks.
He has produced 603 points (247 goals, 356 assists) in 1,248 career games with five teams since the Ottawa Senators selected him with the 28th overall pick of the 2006 NHL Draft.
Chicago has won four of its last five games to surge into a share of third place in the Central Division. The Blackhawks have finished last in their division each of the last three seasons and haven't wound up higher than sixth since 2016-17.
