Both Of J.J. Hardy's Dingers Were Teeny-Tiny Baby Dingers
Photo via [object Object] The Orioles are knocking the stuffing out of the ball this year, and they remain the only undefeated team in Major League Baseball after today’s 9-5 comeback win over the Red Sox. Today’s hero was shortstop J.J. Hardy, who knocked in five runs and whacked two dingers.
But both of them wrapped around Pesky’s Pole over Fenway park’s right field wall, which is the shortest distance a ball has to travel to become a home run in. The tagline on MLB.com for the first one uses the word “smash”, which I’m not so sure about.
Three innings later, Hardy sent another ball to almost exactly the same spot. He had the decency to lift this one well over the little wall at least.
Hardy now has the two shortest home runs of the season, per ESPN Stats & Info.
Baltimore has one more game at Fenway tomorrow, so Hardy will have a chance to trim a few more feet off that record.
