Braves place All-Star 2B Ozzie Albies (fractured toe) on IL
Atlanta Braves standout second baseman Ozzie Albies was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday due to a fractured right big toe.
Albies was injured when he was plunked on the toe by Houston Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti in the second inning of Monday's 6-1 victory.
Albies, 27, remained in the contest Monday, but X-rays following the game displayed the fracture.
Veteran infield David Fletcher was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the roster opening.
Albies, a three-time All-Star, is batting .317 with two homers and 14 RBIs in 15 games this season.
Albies established career bests of 33 homers and 109 RBIs last season. It marked the second 30-homer campaign and second 100-RBI season of his career.
Albies has a .273 career average with 133 homers and 469 RBIs in 787 games since reaching the majors with the Braves in 2017.
Fletcher, 29, had a .277 career average with 16 homers and 168 RBIs in six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
Fletcher was the Angels' starting second baseman in 2021 and also can play shortstop and third base. The Braves acquired him from Los Angeles in December.
Fletcher was batting .280 with seven RBIs in 13 games for Gwinnett.
