Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images The Atlanta Braves shifted Tony Mansolino's role to bench coach under new skipper Walt Weiss on Tuesday.
Mansolino, a former interim manager for the Baltimore Orioles, was announced last Friday as the team's new third base coach.
Instead, Tommy Watkins was named the third base coach. Other new hires confirmed Tuesday were catching coach Dustin Garneau, assistant hitting coach Darnell Coles and major league coach Tony Diaz. Atlanta also retained hitting coach Tim Hyers and major league coach Eddie Perez.
Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, bullpen coach J.P. Martinez and first base coach Antoan Richardson previously were announced as part of Weiss' staff.
Mansolino, 43, replaced Orioles manager Brandon Hyde on May 17. He guided Baltimore to a 60-59 record following its 15-28 start under Hyde. Mansolino had been the team's third base coach since 2021.
Watkins, 45, had been with the Minnesota Twins since 2019, including the last four seasons as third base coach.
The Braves promoted Weiss from bench coach to manager on Nov. 3. He replaced Brian Snitker, who announced his retirement after a 76-86 season.
