Byron Scott Thinks Some Of His Players Would Frag Him
It has been a remarkable year of quotes from Lakers coach Byron Scott, who has vacillated between pure delusion and brutal honesty with his words. Speaking with reporters after practice yesterday about how he is going to continue to make his very bad team practice hard, he opted for the latter. Via the LA Times:
“I got a sense of a whole lot of them I wouldn’t want to be in a fox hole with,” Scott said after Monday’s practice. “I think they’d end up shooting me in the back. So I’ve got a pretty good sense of the guys that I think are going to be around, that we will build around, build together in this process and go through it.”
Scott isn’t the first coach to have a poor relationship with one or more of his players, but I have never heard a coach describe their relationship with their players in such graphic terms. The thing is though, the Lakers players would be right to metaphorically frag Scott. He’s a bad coach advocating a dumb strategy, and has mismanaged the admittedly meager talent he does have. He was hired into a bad situation, and made it much worse. If Jim and Jeanie Buss have any sense, Scott won’t even be around next season to get shot in the back.
