Cardinals Rookie's No-Hitter Broken Up By Fire Alarm, Joey Votto
credits: Jamie Sabau | source: [object Object] For the second night in a row, a Cardinals debutante starter took a no-hitter into the seventh inning. But this time, the Cincinnati Reds’ ballpark was ready to shut that shit down. Following up on Daniel Poncedeleon’s wonderful seven innings of no-hit ball in his debut on Monday, Austin Gomber threw himself six straight innings in his first career start with only two walks and zero hits allowed. Then, before the bottom of the seventh, some Ohio asshole triggered the air raid sirens:
When play resumed following a delay of several minutes, Gomber got himself a flyout, but then surrendered a base hit to Joey Votto and a two-run game-tying dinger to Eugenio Suarez. Of course, we can’t prove that the alarm was any kind of gamesmanship on the Reds’ part. But regardless of intent, that obnoxious noise is tonight’s MVP.
