Charge sign G Sarah Coe, move G Sanni Ahola to LTIR
Finland goalie Sanni Ahola pounces to cover a loose rebounds against Czechia during the bronze medal game at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York, Sunday, April 14, 2024. The Ottawa Charge signed goaltender Sarah Coe to a standard player contract and placed goalie Sanni Ahola on long-term injured reserve due to illness.
Ahola's move to LTIR is retroactive to Dec. 18, the day after she debuted in the PWHL with 20 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Seattle Torrent.
The Charge said Coe would join the team at practice Tuesday as Ahola's recovery continues.
Coe, 23, went undrafted in 2025 following her senior season at Rochester Institute of Technology. She compiled a .908 career save percentage in 96 appearances for the Tigers.
The 25-year-old Ahola is the first PWHL netminder from Finland. She backstopped the Finns to consecutive bronze medals at the 2024 and 2025 world championships and is expected to be their Olympic starter in Milan, Italy, in February.
The Charge drafted Ahola out of St. Cloud State in the fifth round in 2025. Their main goalie, Gwyneth Philips, boasts a .930 save percentage in nine starts and is the league's reigning postseason MVP.
