Cristiano Ronaldo Is Not Mad. This Is Actually Funny To Him.
Photo via [object Object] Underwear mogul/ ab demon Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portuguese teammates opened their Euro 2016 campaign against Iceland today. It was the tiny island’s first European Championship game ever, and they managed to come from behind and tie Portugal, 1-1. Portugal had 27 shots, 10 on goal, and 66 percent of the possession, but Ronaldo didn’t score and Iceland managed to frustrate Portugal all game long. Their goal was a nice little volleyed score in the 49th minute.
After the game, Ronaldo was the picture of grace and humility when asked about the beauty of Iceland’s underdog story, telling the :
I thought they’d won the Euros the way they celebrated at the end, it was unbelievable. When they don’t try to play and just defend, defend, defend this in my opinion shows a small mentality and are not going to do anything in the competition.
Aww! Right as the final whistle blew, Iceland’s captain Aron Gunnarsson went to shake Ronaldo’s hand and try to swap jerseys. Ronaldo ignored him and looked straight ahead before graciously slapping Gunnarsson’s hand like it was a bag of dog shit he had to pick up to toss in the trash.
Ronaldo was somehow not mad (this is actually funny, you see) even after blowing a golden opportunity to get a late winner.
Thankfully, the second-best team in their group (Austria) lost today, so Portugal isn’t yet in any sort of trouble. Ronaldo hasn’t done much with his national side lately, and these Euros will be a much more entertaining tournament if he can play anywhere near his swaggering peak.
