Dashcam Video Shows Jim Irsay Stumbling During DUI Stop
The dashcam video of Jim Irsay's stop in March for operating a vehicle while intoxicated was released today, and it shows the Indianapolis Colts owner stumble several times as officers ask him to perform sobriety tests.
WISH-TV in Indianapolis reports that 60 minutes of video were released, and various portions are being published online. The longest chunk of the raw video published so far appears to be from WISH, at a little longer than five minutes. It starts with Irsay getting out of his Toyota Highlander. Two officers are there—one on each side—and Irsay makes his way to the back of the vehicle. In the video below there's no audio, so the commands from the officers can't be heard. In the first 30 seconds Irsay stumbles twice.
The officers administer various sobriety tests, first by his SUV and later by the hood of the police car. They ask Irsay to touch a specific point and follow a moving object. During the tests, Irsay continues to stumble. When one officer moves to put away a flashlight, Irsay stumbles to the left, partially falling out of the area being recorded.
The WISH video doesn't show Irsay being cuffed, but this report from WTHR does.
Irsay was stopped after officers in noticed him going 10 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to a police report, and twice saw the SUV stop in the middle of the road. Inside, arrest reports noted, police found " numerous" bottles of prescription pills and more than $29,000 in cash.
In September, Irsay pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of driving while under the influence of prescription drugs. He got a year of probation, and the deal included no time in jail. The NFL suspended him for six games and fined him $500,000, the maximum allowed under the league's personal conduct policy.
