Police are treating the situation as a homicide investigation, according to ESPN, with Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reporting that strangulation or suffocation is the possible cause of death. Police have yet to release almost any details about the body, except that he is male and not Jenkins. Bergen County prosecutor Dennis Calo said that the deceased’s identity cannot be released until his next of kin is notified.(Update 9:21 p.m. ET: Police have identified the body as Roosevelt Rene, who they said was a family friend who lived at the Fair Lawn house.)
Jenkins reportedly rents the Fair Lawn home during football season, but currently has family staying there. ESPN’s Dianna Russini added this bizarre detail:
We requested further information from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Fair Lawn PD, but were told to call back during normal business hours. We’ll update as more details become available.
