Blankenship, 25, would have been an unrestricted free agent next offseason after playing under the final year of his three-season rookie contract which will pay him $985,000 in base salary, according to media reports. Terms of his new contract were not disclosed.
He led the team last season with 108 tackles in 15 games (all starts), including 75 solo tackles, along with three interceptions and 11 passes defended. Blankenship was one of five NFL players in 2023 to have 105 or more tackles, three-plus interceptions and at least 10 passes defended, according to the team.
Undrafted out of Middle Tennessee State in 2022, Blankenship has 140 career tackles, four interceptions and 13 passes defended in 25 career regular-season games (19 starts) and nine tackles in three playoff games in 2022.
Also on Monday, the NFL announced bonuses in its performance-based pay distribution, and Blankenship received the second-high total among eligible players at $923,059 — more than doubling his pay for this season.
