El Salvador Bans 14 For Match-Fixing, Including Match Against The U.S.
Seems they have Friday afternoon bad news dumps in El Salvador too! Fourteen players on the national team have been banned for life for their roles in a massive international match-fixing ring.
Last month, the Salvadoran federation suspended 22 players while it undertook an investigation. Earlier this week, police arrested 14 gang members in Singapore, said to be a part of the scheme that allegedly fixed hundreds of matches worldwide, including Champions League and World Cup qualifiers.
The U.S.'s only part in this scandal is an incidental one: a 2-1 win in a 2010 friendly with El Salvador, who in the final minutes appeared to be doing everything in its power to allow the Americans to score.
