Fans Interrupt New Coach's Press Conference To Rip His Clothes Off
Levski Sofia, one of the most popular and decorated Bulgarian teams, introduced Ivaylo Petev as manager on Tuesday. He was welcomed by angry Levski fans, who crashed the press conference and forcibly removed Petev's Levski jacket. And then, just for the hell of it, the t-shirt he had on underneath. Stripped to the waist, Petev ended the event and quit a day later.
"The most shameful page in the club's history," local media called it. Petev, widely considered one of Bulgaria's best young managers, was flabbergasted.
"I'm not a criminal, I'm not a thief, but yesterday I felt exactly like that. What did I do to deserve this?"
At issue among the ultras was Petev's supposed support of Levski's biggest rival, CSKA Sofia. Though he had never played for or managed CSKA, he was quoted earlier this year as saying he was a fan—a quote Petev promptly said was made-up.
