Feds: Drunk T.J. Miller Argued With Woman On Train And Called In False Bomb Threat
credits: Willy Sanjuan | source: [object Object] Comedian T.J. Miller—known for his work on HBO’s Silicon Valley ( where he was reportedly pushed out for being a dick and repeatedly showing up to work drunk), or that time he got real sexist at a tech awards show, or that he allegedly slapped an Uber driver, or that time he was accused of sexually assaulting and punching a woman—was arrested Monday night for calling in a fake bomb threat on a woman he was arguing with on a train. Per a release from the U.S. District Attorney’s office in Connecticut, Miller was arrested at La Guardia Airport and charged by “federal criminal complaint with intentionally conveying to law enforcement false information about an explosive device.”
On March 18, Miller called a 911 dispatcher in New Jersey and told them that a woman on his Amtrak train had a bomb in her bag, a fact which he claimed he deduced after observing her fidgeting with said bag. The train was stopped and searched, and it came back bomb-free. An investigator then called Miller and noticed that he sounded drunk:
The officer detected slurring in MILLER’s voice and asked if he had consumed alcohol that day. MILLER replied that he had consumed “one glass of red wine.” Asked if he suffered from mental illness, MILLER replied “no, absolutely not. This is the first time I’ve ever made a call like this before. I am worried for everyone on that train. Someone has to check that lady out.”
An attendant on Miller’s train said he was drinking and getting rowdy, eventually wading into “hostile exchanges” with the passenger he eventually called the cops on. Miller was even kicked off the train for his drunkenness, or at least the public expression of that drunkenness. The complaint concludes that Miller called in the fake bomb threat because he was “motivated by a grudge against the subject female.” In addition to a slate of transit authorities and local police departments, the case is also under investigation by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
