Fever's Caitlin Clark isn't too concerned about back issues
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) smiles Friday, May 22, 2026, during a game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Indiana Fever defeated the Golden State Valkyries, 90-82. Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark acknowledged Tuesday that she is aware of her back issues.
Concerned, though? She says no.
"I don't think (the back issues) necessarily started at a certain point. I think it's just been over the course of the last year when I've kind of been understanding my body more," Clark said. "But before that, I was always like, I'm fine, I'm fine, I can go play, go play, go play.
"And maybe sometimes I'm too hyperaware about certain things.
"... But I don't think it's anything of concern, no."
Well, it was concerning when Clark was ruled out of the Fever's game against the Portland Fire last Wednesday after she woke up with soreness in her back. The late scratch came approximately under two hours to tipoff, causing a stir with fans.
Fever head coach Stephanie White told reporters that it was precautionary, noting that "it's not the time to take a chance."
Clark, 24, returned to action on Friday, collecting 22 points and nine assists in Indiana's 90-82 win over the Golden State Valkyries.
She is averaging 23.8 points and 9.0 assists in five games this season.
The 2024 No. 1 overall pick and two-time All-Star was limited to just 13 games last season, missing time due to quad, groin and ankle injuries.
