Future Georgetown Hoya Mac McClung Does The Coolest Dunks
Georgetown fizzled out again Tuesday night, losing 73-69 to Providence. It was the team’s ninth loss in Big East play and the Hoyas’ fourth loss this season in which they had led with under four minutes to go. Patrick Ewing kindly took the blame and said he “ got out-coached,” which may be true but doesn’t quite explain why Georgetown failed to score a single field goal in the last 4:10 of the game. It is bleak, folks.
But it’s not all bad news. There is a small bright spot on the horizon for Georgetown basketball, and that spot’s name is Mac McClung. The Georgetown commit is a 6-foot-2 senior point guard at Gate City High School in Virginia, and apparently the first cousin of rapper Riff Raff. You may know him from absurd highlight reels like this:
He’s averaging 37.6 points a game and is on pace to break Allen Iverson’s Virginia High School League’s single-season scoring record. (In 1993, Iverson scored 948 points in 30 games.) In December, McClung pulled this off during a game when Ewing was in attendance:
Then last night, while Georgetown plodded and stunk towards another loss, McClung doled out some especially tasty dunks, including a bonkers between-the-legs slam. It didn’t help against Providence, of course, but it was something for Hoya fans to nibble on as they wait for the college basketball season to come to its merciful end.
It’s hard to say what the Georgetown Hoyas will look like next year—Georgetown has also secured four-star recruit Josh LeBlanc from Baton Rouge, La., and 6-foot-8 Grayson Carter from Dallas, Texas—though it would be difficult for them not to improve on this black hole of a season. In the meantime, though, so let’s just enjoy these cool dunks and dream about what they might look like when McClung’s in a Hoyas jersey.
