Jake Arrieta Throws First No-Hitter Of The Season
The Cubs might have to break out the pajamas again, because Jake Arrieta has thrown another no-hitter, blanking the Reds in a 16-0 blowout win on only 119 pitches. Incredibly, Arrieta hasn’t lost a start since his no-no back in August, and today was (obviously) his best outing since then. He only struck six dudes out, but he accrued 12 flyouts and eight groundouts.
Arrieta walked four in the game, and he added two hits of his own. The Reds had gone 35 years without getting no-hit, which was the longest streak in baseball. Chicago’s 16 runs are two short of the all-time record of 18 runs in a 1884 no-hitter.
During the celebrations, an enterprising idiot on the field managed to get in on the action.
Here’s another look at our man.
