Jeremy Chardy Saves Match Point With Amazing Forehand, Beats Federer
47th-ranked French tennis player Jeremy Chardy didn't appear to have much of a chance against Roger Federer today in Rome, especially when facing match point in the third-set tiebreaker. Then he pulled this unbelievable forehand winner off—and leveraged it to a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win.
Federer, playing days after his wife gave birth to twins, dominated the first set and looked like regular old Roger. But Chardy bounced back to earn his first career win against the 17-time Grand Slam champion.
It's the second time in less than a year Federer has lost the opening match of a tournament, but only the first time in four years that he's done so at an ATP Masters 1000 event.
