Jim Boeheim Is Talking Shit About His Own Players Again
Syracuse whomped Colgate last night, and a grumpy Jim Boeheim fell back on his favorite schtick during his postgame press conference: letting everyone know that his players are not good enough to be considered lottery picks.
Boeheim's harshest words were directed at freshman forward Chris McCullough (as seen in the video above), who found himself near the top of a few early NBA draft boards after a strong start to the season. McCullough struggled last night, and Boeheim seized the opportunity to put him on blast:
If he's a lottery pick, I don't how he could possibly struggle against Colgate. It just doesn't make sense to me. I got a better chance of winning the lottery, and I don't buy tickets.
I don't think [opponents] are even playing him. I don't think they're even worried about him, to be honest with you. He's got a long way to go. He's just got to work hard and work at the game and, you know, gain 20 or 30 pounds and he'll be a good player some day.
Unsurprisingly, this isn't the first time Boeheim has attempted to chop away at McCullough's draft stock this season. He may very well be right about McCullough being overrated, but there's still something gross about how consistently eager he is to deflate the value of the unpaid players upon whom his wealth and fame are built. Why do you have to be such a dick all the time, man?
