John Terry's Questionable Substitution In His Last Chelsea Match Was Probably Fine But He Still Sucks

On Sunday, Chelsea captain and one of the most unlikeable men in sports John Terry bid farewell to his club of 22 years after he was subbed off in the 26th minute of the club’s 5-1 drubbing of Sunderland. It was an orchestrated tribute to his uniform number, and Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford obliged and kicked the ball out at the prescribed time to allow for the substitution.

The English Football Association is reportedly gathering information from bookmakers after some bettors won big wagering on the exact time of Terry’s substitution. But, as the Guardian reported:

There is no suggestion that the decision to substitute Terry was anything other than Chelsea’s attempt to give their captain a proper send-off as his 22-year spell at the club draws to a close, and no suspicious betting patterns have, as yet, been reported.

So, some clever bettors seem to have simply made an educated guess as to how Chelsea would honor Terry in his last game at Stamford Bridge. What a relief that the guy who allegedly fucked his teammate’s wife, drunkenly harassed grieving Americans on 9/11, and was found guilty of racially abusing another player isn’t involved in any gambling funny business!
