Jozy Altidore Leads AZ Alkmaar To First Dutch Cup In 31 Years
American Jozy Altidore scored what turned out to be the winning goal for AZ Alkmaar in a 2-1 upset over PSV Eindhoven in today's Dutch Cup final, delivering AZ its first Cup since 1982.
Altidore continues to be on the fringes of favor with the U.S. men's national team, though much of that is the fault of AZ itself. Altidore's scored 31 goals in all competitions this season, and American fans hope he can carry that streak of success into the U.S. World Cup qualifiers this summer against Jamaica, Panama, and Honduras. Whether he'll get the proper playing time, alas, seems up to his professional club—and so far they've claimed he'll be busy with "team-related activities," despite the fact the Eredivisie season ends this weekend.
