Keon Broxton Saved The Game With This Catch
Dylan Buell/Getty Images The Brewers salvaged a series split with the Cardinals, and crawled back to within three games of a wild card spot, and they have Keon Broxton to thank. The outfielder made a leaping catch at the wall in dead center to save what might’ve been a go-ahead two-run home run and seal a 6-5 win.
“It’s what every outfielder dreams of, making a catch like that,” said Broxton, who snagged Randal Grichuk’s bid for his second homer of the day.
“He got the save tonight,” said closer Corey Knebel, who actually got the save. But it’s going to cost him a fancy dinner. “I’ll [order] him whatever he wants.”
Broxton was only in the game for his defense; he came on in the eighth in a double-switch. Things might’ve ended very differently if not for the move, though one Brewer doesn’t think so.
“I’m glad he was in there, though [starting CF] Hernán [Pérez] says he would have made the play,” manager Craig Counsell said with a smile.
Hey, here’s a throwback for all you old heads: The Cardinals lost their 66th game. They are 66-66 and 5.5 games out of a wild card. There’s always the next game!
