Marc-Andre Fleury's Stadium Series Mask Looks Like A Steelers Helmet
Honest-to-goodness NHL hockey is back tonight! ( Sort of.) But if you need some novelty to ease the transition from the Olympics to the stretch run, Saturday marks the fourth and final Stadium Series game. The Penguins will take on the Blackhawks at Soldier Field, and as is tradition, both goalies will take the ice wearing custom masks. Fleury's wins.
Above, via InGoal Magazine, the mask created by artist Stephane Bergeron. Aside from the Penguins logo, it's basically a Steelers helmet—right down to the painted lower face (and Fleury's soul patch) covered up by a chin strap. It's the football version of Henrik Lundqvist's Yankee pinstripes.
Below is what Chicago's Corey Crawford will wear on Saturday—another Bergeron piece. Fairly pedestrian, but it should look big and colorful from a distance.
Blackhawks backup Antti Raanta might turn out to be the best-dressed netminder in the building. His Ed Belfour-inspired mask is garnering praise, but his pads are even better. Obviously he should wear them full-time:
