Michael Bennett Indicted On Felony Charge After Allegedly Pushing Past Stadium Worker At Super Bowl LI
Bennett on the field before Super Bowl LI credits: Dan Phillip | source: [object Object] As announced by the Harris County (Texas) District Attorney’s office, Eagles defensive end Michael Bennett was indicted by a grand jury today on the felony charge of injury of the elderly. The incident in question took place on Feb. 5, 2017, at Super Bowl 51 in Houston.
According to the office’s statement, Bennett pushed past security, including a 66-year-old paraplegic stadium employee, as he rushed onto the field to celebrate the Patriots’ win with his brother Martellus, a tight end for New England. A warrant has been issued for Michael’s arrest.
Bennett is accused of ignoring instructions from multiple security guards, who told him to use another access point to get onto the field. Instead, prosecutors say he pushed through the throng and injured a paraplegic security guard. Per Harris County DA Kim Ogg’s office, the injury of the elderly charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
