Olbermann: If Pro Sports Want Legal Gambling, Help Gambling Addicts
Adam Silver's op-ed in the New York Times in support of legalized sports gambling reversed the long history of professional sports outwardly demonizing gambling while stage whispering all the information with which gamblers can make their decisions. If we bring gambling out of the shadows and, you know, get it some oversight, the endeavor will be less shady. Fair enough, and nothing that's going to surprise anyone. But Olbermann takes the next, obvious step: If the NBA and others would like to profit more openly and freely, they've got to take responsible for treatment of compulsive gambling, because gambling as a vice is as destructive as any other, if not more so.
