Orioles Prospect Ramon Ramirez Dies After Motorcycle Accident In The Dominican Republic
Baltimore Orioles prospect Ramon Ramirez died yesterday near his hometown of La Romana, Dominican Republic after a motorcycle accident. He was 23 years old.
MASN reports that Ramirez’s motorcycle was hit by another vehicle, and that his girlfriend who was on the back of the bike survived with a broken leg. Team executive Vice President Dan Duquette issued the following statement:
“Our entire organization is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Ramon Ramirez. As a member of the Orioles organization, Ramon worked tirelessly to make the most of his opportunity to play professional baseball. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates, and coaches as we mourn this unimaginable loss.”
Ramirez had been with the organization since July 2014, spending time in Single-A ball and the Gulf Coast league through the past two seasons. Oscar Tavares, another Dominican prospect, died in a car accident back in October of 2014.
