Prosecutors: Aldon Smith Had A .40 BAC When He Went To Get His Ankle Monitor For Alcohol Testing

According to San Francisco prosecutors, that violation occurred because Smith was almost incomprehensibly drunk when he showed up to get fitted for an ankle monitor that would track his alcohol intake. Via the San Francisco Chronicle:
He showed up at the sheriff’s department Friday evening to be fitted for the monitors, but he was extremely intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.40, Assistant District Attorney Courtney Burris said at a brief court hearing Wednesday.
While at the sheriff’s department, Smith’s blood alcohol content actually rose to .41, Burris said. He was immediately taken into custody for violating a court order. He remains in custody on $500,000 bail.
For context, the legal BAC limit for driving is a mere .08, and even the infamous Vodka Samm only blew a .341 after she tried to jump onto the field at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa. According to this chart from Notre Dame, a BAC of .40 or higher is beyond alcohol poisoning, and can lead to “onset of coma” and “possible death due to respiratory arrest.”
According to online records from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, Smith is still in custody on a $500,000 bail. Honestly, some time to sober up may not be the worst thing for him.
