Report: A's to sign reliever Mark Leiter Jr. to 1-year deal
New York Yankees pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. (56) stands on the mound after Cincinnati Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz (44) reaches third base on a wild pitch in the 11th inning of the MLB interleague game between the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The Reds won 5-4 in 11 innings. The Athletics are in agreement with reliever Mark Leiter Jr. on a one-year deal for about $3 million, ESPN reported Thursday.
The 34-year-old right-hander was non-tendered by the New York Yankees after the 2025 season and became a free agent in November.
Leiter was 6-7 with two saves and a 4.84 ERA in 59 relief appearances with the Yankees in 2025.
He is 16-29 with nine saves and a 4.60 ERA in 270 career games (15 starts) with the Philadelphia Phillies (2017-18), Toronto Blue Jays (2018), Chicago Cubs (2022-24) and Yankees (2024-25).
The deal with the A's reportedly is pending the results of a physical for Leiter, who missed the entire 2019 season after Tommy John surgery. Last season, he suffered a fibular head stress fracture in his left leg and spent time on the injured list.
