Report: PGA, LIV leaders to meet with President Trump on Thursday
Jun 5, 2024; Columbus, Ohio, USA; PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan speaks during the Honoree Ceremony for the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and leaders of LIV Golf are in Washington, D.C., to meet with President Donald Trump, Golfweek reported Thursday.
The Thursday meeting was first reported by Radar Atlas, a site tracking private jet and airplane travel, which confirmed aircraft connected to the Tour and policy board player director Adam Scott were in D.C. on Wednesday night.
Golfweek reported Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan also was confirmed for the meeting with Trump, who has met in the past two weeks with Monahan and Tiger Woods. Woods said Sunday during the Genesis Open broadcast that a meeting between the two sides was imminent and he felt an agreement was possible this year.
Monahan and Scott, the Tour's player director, met with Trump at the White House earlier this month. Monahan publicly stated he welcomed Trump's involvement in negotiations.
Woods assessed that negotiations were in a "very positive place right now."
"I think that things are going to heal quickly. We're going to get this game going in the right direction," Woods said during last week's tournament broadcast. "It's been heading in the wrong direction for a number of years and the fans want all of us to play together, all the top players playing together and we're going to make that happen."
A framework agreement for a potential merger of the tours was put in place in June 2023.
Al-Rumayyan has played golf with Trump. PIF is a benefactor of LIV Golf and Trump's private businesses.
