Reports: 49ers Fan Stabbed Near Candlestick Park Just After Kickoff Of Today's Game Against The Giants
At approximately 1:35 p.m. pacific time, an individual was stabbed and seriously injured near Candlestick Park. While initially considered life-threatening, the victim is expected to survive the injuries. We received the pictured above from a tipster who claimed to be on the scene.
The victim, identified only as being 27 years old, was with five friends when the suspects approached them around 1:35 p.m. on Harney Way near Jamestown Road, on the southwest side of the stadium, according to Sgt. Michael Andraychak of the San Francisco Police Department. Tens of thousands of fans had just taken their seats inside the stadium for the 1:25 p.m. start of the 49ers' home game against the New York Giants. The two groups got into a verbal argument; one of the suspects then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the torso, Andraychak said.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the victim was on his way to the 49ers game with his friends when two men, also 49ers fans, started the verbal altercation.
Police say they arrested two suspects—ages 22 and 30—moments after the stabbing, about two blocks from the incident. A gang taskforce is involved, but it has not yet been determined whether the incident was gang-related.
