Mandatory Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images The Los Angeles Chargers will release running back Gus Edwards, multiple media outlets reported on Friday.
Edwards spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Chargers last offseason as a free agent.
In Baltimore, Edwards was one of the league's most efficient rushers. He rushed for 700-plus yards and averaged 5.0-plus yards per carry in each of his first three seasons.
In 2023, he carried the ball 198 times for 810 yards and 13 touchdowns in his final season for the Ravens. He also had 12 receptions for 180 yards.
In 2024, he appeared in 11 games for the Chargers, but saw his statistics decline. He rushed for 365 yards and four touchdowns on a career-low 3.6 yards per carry.
In the passing game, he was targeted a mere five times, recording three receptions for 6 yards.
The 29-year-old will look to bounce back in a new destination.
Meanwhile, the Chargers will look to reconfigure their backfield. They released Edwards and J.K. Dobbins is set to become a free agent.
