Reports: Rutgers Is Cleaning House
Julie Hermann, who presided over Rutgers athletics during a very tumultuous time, was finally fired by Rutgers today, according to a report from NJ.com. From the report:
The person with knowledge of the situation requested anonymity because university President Robert Barchi hasn’t announced the decision publicly.
A second person familiar with the situation told NJ Advance Media Sunday morning that Hermann was expected to be asked to resign, and her oversight over the football program was the chief reason for her ouster.
Hermann got hired on in 2013 shortly after abusive former basketball coach Mike Rice was let go, and it’s remarkable that she lasted this long. Before she was even hired, there were allegations of her abusing former players while a volleyball coach as well as facilitating abuse by Louisville’s lacrosse coach. Under Hermann’s reign former defensive coordinator Dave Cohen was accused of verbal abuse, she bungled asking Eric LeGrand to speak at commencement, and head coach Kyle Flood was embroiled in a series of controversies.
As for Flood, he has been fired today as well. The school announced the news this morning. Five of Flood’s players were arrested this fall, and he also may have made illegal contact with Rutgers University faculty to try and get one of his players academically eligible.
