Rovell Forced To Give On-Air Apology For "Serious Error In Judgment"
After the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight on May 2, Darren Rovell attempted to explain to ESPN viewers the diverse range of mega-rich people in attendance. One of those people, we were told, was “loan shark” Bobby Freedman. Here’s the actual video of Rovell’s on-air appearance from 1:40 a.m. ET on May 3:
We have no idea who Bobby Freedman is, or if he’s a loan shark. (We googled “Bobby Freedman” and “loan shark” only to find Rovell’s now-corrected blog post as the only result. Rovell’s post originally read, when published:
Before the fight, Mark Wahlberg was arguing with Bradley Cooper, who was sitting next to Fox chairman Rupert Murdoch. To Cooper’s left was Yahoo chairman Terry Semel and famed loan shark Bobby Friedman. In front of Friedman sat former NBA stars Reggie Miller and Charles Barkley, separated by Turner Broadcasting president David Levy. Everywhere you turned, there was celebrity: agent Ari Emanuel, Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi, Jay Z and Beyoncé.
The blog post was corrected days ago; Rovell’s onscreen apology only first appeared last night at 1:28 a.m. ET; it’s since rerun at that same time on the hour seven more times. If you saw Rovell on SportsCenter and were wondering why he had to apologize, well, here’s why.
