Sounds Like The Nuggets Have Given Up
It takes a village to create a middenheap as large and as foul as the 2014-15 Denver Nuggets. A poorly assembled roster, a coach who's in over his head, and a cheapskate owner have all combined to make this so much more special than just a typical lost season—the players may be actively sabotaging their coach! But even that fun has worn off. The Nuggets just want to go home.
From Christopher Dempsey's column in today's Denver Post, an anecdote about not just one player, but an entire lineup playing out the string:
A fourth-quarter huddle late in the Nuggets' 104-82 loss to the Utah Jazz on Friday broke with this phrase: "1-2-3 ... six weeks!"
As in six weeks to go until the end of the season. That's 24 games, 46 days and 1,152 minutes away.
Tax day, April 15, is getaway day: the last day of the Nuggets' season. Rest assured, there are players who are already counting.
I get it. Imagine being at a job you hate, with co-workers you hate and bosses you hate, your days are unproductive and unrewarding, and you know the exact date you get to leave—or at least take a long vacation. You'd damn well be counting down the days, too.
Anyway, there are too many NBA teams and the season is too long. Someone should do something about that.
