St. Louis Cat Nonprofit To Cards: Bullying Us Over Rally Cat Is "Inconsistent With The Cardinals Way"
Photo Credit: Jeff Roberson/ [object Object] Yesterday, we brought you an update on the Cardinals’ arrogant claim to the cat that ran across their stadium field last week. A local nonprofit, St. Louis Feral Cat Outreach, is caring for the feline until the organization finds it a suitable new home—with the Cardinals as just one of “thousands” of groups and individuals they’ve spoken to about adopting the cat, which is affectionally known as Rally for the grand slam it inspired after its rendez-vous on the field. But while the nonprofit has maintained that they have not yet made a decision on who will take Rally home, the Cardinals have gone ahead and began planning a “Welcome Home” event for next week, calling the cat “ours” in a statement to the and speaking about how it will live in the clubhouse once the adoption goes through.
Guess what? The nonprofit will not stand for that bullshit. In a Facebook post today, they slammed the statements by team vice president of communications Ron Watermon as “bullying” and decidedly not something you’d find in The Cardinals Way.
Watermon responded to the nonprofit’s comments in a brief email to the Post-Dispatch today:
“It is personally hurtful to me, irresponsible and, frankly, childish. There is no need for the organization to personally attack me for doing my job.”
Hmm, that last part doesn’t seem quite right, unless his job description includes publicly claiming an animal as team property simply because of its brief presence on stadium grounds. See, there’s a process in place here. The center says they “truly want what is best for Rally,” and contrary to what the Cardinals seem to think, living in a clubhouse with Mike Matheny and 25 men is not necessarily the best thing for every living creature.
Stay tuned for more on Rally’s plight.
