Stephen Curry Sprains MCL, Will Miss At Least Two Weeks
Photo via David J. Phillip/ [object Object] . Warriors point guard Stephen Curry underwent an MRI on his right knee this morning, and it revealed a Grade 1 MCL sprain. According to the team, Curry will be re-evaluated in two weeks:
Curry suffered the injury on the final play of the first half of Sunday’s Game 4 victory over the Rockets, after he slipped on a wet spot caused by Donatas Motiejunas falling to the floor.
This is probably the best result the Warriors could have realistically hoped for. They should easily dispatch the Rockets without Curry—Game 5 is at home, and they beat the Rockets by 27 in the second half last night after learning Curry wouldn’t return—and there’s a decent chance the Clippers-Trail Blazers series goes long, giving Curry additional time to rest. They also avoid the Spurs and Thunder in the next round: they can beat either the Clippers or Trail Blazers even without Curry.
That being said, there is no guarantee Curry is immediately back in two weeks. Golden State’s release only says he will be re-evaluated then, and the prognosis for ligaments isn’t nearly as precise as it is for other injuries, such as broken bones.
