Terrible Boston College Team Ends Syracuse's Unbeaten Season
With the recent one-possession wins against opponents like Pittsburgh and N.C. State, Syracuse were looking less likely to finish the season undefeated. But who expected their first loss to be at home against a six-win team?
The Boston College Eagles pulled quite an upset over the Orange with a 62-59 overtime win, earning just their third ACC win of the season and making the Carrier Dome an arena of sadness.
The Eagles were down by eight at halftime, but kept close with Syracuse, eventually tying the game with 8:16 left. After the Orange's Tyler Ennis and Rakeem Christmas missed shots at the end of regulation, Boston College kicked off overtime with a three-pointer by Olivier Hanlan and staved off Syracuse for a shocking victory.
Boston College's strength tonight was their success behind the arc, shooting 50.0% for the game. Meanwhile, the Orange were horrendous, with a 32.3% field goal percentage and 16.7% three-point percentage. Syracuse also had 24 free throw attempts to Boston College's 10, but missed seven of them.
The second-ranked Florida Gators beat Auburn tonight and have one more game, against Ole Miss, this Saturday. If they can pass by Marshall Henderson's crew, they'd presumably usurp the Orange for the top ranking.
