Twins Prospect Yorman Landa Dies In Car Accident
Photo Credit: Stacy Revere/ [object Object] Minnesota Twins minor leaguer Yorman Landa died in a car accident last night in his native Venezuela. He was 22.
Landa re-signed with the Twins earlier this week, after joining the organization as a 16-year-old and playing in their minor league system from 2011 on. The right-handed pitcher had converted to the bullpen in recent seasons and spent this past year with the team’s High-A affiliate.
“He was one of those guys that really did everything we asked of him,” Jake Mauer, who managed Landa at Class A Cedar Rapids, told the . “He always had a quiet confidence about himself. He would go out and get the job done. His future was pretty bright.”
Landa was chosen for the Florida State League All-Star Game this year, where he hit 102 mph with his fastball. He was listed as the Twins’ no. 20 prospect in MLB.com’s most recent ranking.
