Usain Bolt Completes Triple-Triple, Leads Jamaica To 4x100m Gold
Usain Bolt has completed the unprecedented feat of winning the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay in three straight Olympics, anchoring Jamaica to a 37.27 tonight and, with Nickel Ashmeade, Yohan Blake, and Asafa Powell, beating Japan by 0.33 seconds. The U.S. claimed bronze, two hundredths of a second behind Japan.
Bolt finishes his career— maybe—with, obviously, nine gold medals. Carl Lewis and Paavo Nurmi are the only two non-swimmers to stand atop an Olympic podium that many times.
Update (9:56 p.m.): The United States have been disqualified, giving the bronze to Canada.
