Welcome To The Bizarro NFL
This image was lost some time after publication. Word on the street is that the Green Bay Packers are set to hire San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McCarthy as the team's new head coach, with an announcement to come maybe later today. This may come as a surprise to, well, anyone who is familiar with the final NFL regular season standings. But McCarthy, grand architect of the 49ers' 4-12 season record, was reportedly sought by several teams and is highly regarded as a quarterback mentor — one assumes that Alex Smith's season stats were not included on his resume, however. Another person of interest to those teams still in the market for a head coach is none other than 49ers linebackers coach Mike Singletary, who of course helped construct this. So we think we get it now. The next NFL coach to come out of the college ranks will most surely be New Mexico State's Hal Mumme.

(By the way, check out that picture of McCarthy. Think Brett Favre's gonna be OK with the hire?)
