Report: Former USA Gymnastics Doctor Larry Nassar To Plead Guilty In Sex Abuse Cases
Photo: David Eggert/ [object Object] Larry Nassar—who has been accused by more than 140 women and girls of sexually abusing them under the guise of medical treatment while he was a doctor with USA Gymnastics and Michigan State—is scheduled to plead guilty in two of his criminal cases, the Lansing State Journal reported today. According to the State Journal, plea hearings have been scheduled in both cases. One is set for Wednesday in Ingham County, and another is scheduled for Nov. 29 in Eaton County.
Nassar is charged with more than 20 counts of criminal sexual conduct in Ingham and Eaton counties. Due to a gag order in the case, neither attorneys for the state attorney general’s office nor Nassar commented on the details of the plea bargains. The local police also didn’t comment, citing the gag order.
Nassar already has pleaded guilty to the federal child pornography charges and will be sentenced next month.
In September 2016, Rachael Denhollander was the first woman to come forward publicly and say Nassar sexually abused her when she was 15 years old and had gone to see him to be treated for back pain. Since then, more than 100 other women have spoken out, saying saying that Nassar abused them too, the most recent being 2012 and 2016 Olympic champion Aly Raisman.
Denhollander’s husband tweeted this in response to the news of the plea hearings:
